Newborn Session Prep Guide

Congratulations on your bundle of joy! We are very excited to have you and your baby to make this a memorable day. This guide will help you understand what to expect during the photoshoot.

Before your Session:

•  On the day of your session, follow your baby’s schedule

•  Babies do very well for posing when they are in a very deep sleep. To encourage this we highly recommend, stimulating the baby at least two hours before your scheduled session. You could also give them a nice relaxing bath about an hour prior to the photoshoot schedule, but if you feel this will make them overtired, please let them sleep. You know them best!

•  You could also let them kick with only a diaper on, tickle their toes, even letting them fuss for a little bit, etc. This will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures! We cannot stress enough that it is so important to do your best to keep them awake. Many parents come in saying “baby has been sleeping all morning, but don’t worry, they sleep so well this time of day!” only to have baby awake since they will be unclothed and unswaddled

• Please feed baby about an hour prior to your session, and try your best to keep baby awake. Be sure to burp baby really well after the feeding. Gas can make a sleepy, happy baby into an uncomfortable one in seconds

• Dress the baby in a button/zip up outfit, just ideally nothing that goes over the baby's head so if they’re sleepy when you arrive we don’t disturb them too much :)

What to Expect:

• Please allow up to 3-4 hours for your newborn session

• This means baby will most likely need to be fed during the session. Please plan on breastfeeding baby or have some bottles ready to go. Don’t be surprised if they decide they want to be fed more more than usual

• For the comfort of the baby, the studio’s temperature is at a comfortable 80 - 82 degrees, which helps baby stay nice and warm during the session

• Please keep a nuk/pacifier handy (preferably the soothie pacifier the hospital provided, they won’t leave marks). Even if you haven’t used one yet or baby doesn’t seem to take to it, just for the 2-3 hours when posing baby it can really help. However, if you really prefer not to use one, that is fine as well

What to wear:

• Try to avoid busy patterns or strips as they take the focus away from you and your baby

• The studio's temperature would be warm so please dress accordingly and you could carry the change of dress for family photo session.

• We would have bottled water and soda

• A changing table for the baby and a changing pod for the parents
